Taking Action: How Cristo Rey Jesuit Baltimore students planned a Black Lives Matter Peace March
Information
Baltimore is not new to the Black Lives Matter movement and the effect of police brutality on its Black community members, as seen by the city’s reaction to Freddie Gray’s murder in police custody in 2015. When George Floyd was murdered by police officers this past May 25th, 2020, Cristo Rey Jesuit Baltimore students knew they needed to take action. In this workshop, two current CRJ students and one CRJ alum will discuss the development process of putting together a BLM Peace March in June 2020 in response to George Floyd’s killing. By the end of the workshop, the facilitators hope to share with other high school students the tools and skills they learned through this process, so they may take similar action in their own communities.
